Since 1995, RUPA has supported Australia’s professional rugby union players through the provision of expert player advocacy and legal services. This advocacy has ensured that the standards and conditions of the employment of all RUPA members satisfy the entitlements and minimums that exist in both workplace legislation and also the Collective Bargaining Agreement with the ARU and the State Unions.
RUPA is pleased to announce that in 2012 it has further bolstered its resources to provide such invaluable advocacy services through a new partnership with Australia’s leading workplace and industrial relations law firms - the FCB Group.
Following the successful engagement of FCB’s Managing Partner, Campbell Fisher to assist RUPA with its CBA negations in 2011, the announcement of a new formal partnership for 2012 will see RUPA have continuous access to the FCB team, primarily through one of their best young solicitors, Tom Brett, who will work on a permanent part-time basis with RUPA.
RUPA was proud to unveil Tom to the majority of its members over the last couple of weeks during player presentations, and the feedback from the membership has been extremely positive.
Tom’s initial responsibilities will be to provide technical and strategic advice on CBA compliance and the current negotiations, player contract and entitlement issues, player insurance, the Code of Conduct and player indiscretions, commercial agreements and the incorporation of women into RUPA and the game itself.
RUPA looks forward to this partnership and encourages players and agents alike to tap into this valuable capability.
